Mirko Cro Cop Fights Hong Man Choi On Japan MMA Card

August 31st, 2010

The bizarre career path taken by Croatian striking machine Mirko Cro Cop will continue on New Years Eve in Tokyo as he faces 72 Korean kickboxer Hong-Man Choi in what should be the final addition to the K-1/DREAM combined show called Fields Dynamite!

For Cro Cop, its another stop on what has seemed like a meandering professional course full of much talk and little action since his departure from the UFC. In September 10, 2007, Cro Cop had just won PRIDE’s Open Weight Grand Prix in dominant fashion. Some were suggesting that he, and not Fedor Emelianenko, was the best heavyweight fighter in the world.

Cro Cops upset loss to Gabriel Gonzaga changed that and his career his never really recovered. In what was supposed to be a “tune up” bout, Gonzaga smothered Cro Cop and roughed him up on the ground before unleashing his own version of Cro Cop’s signature kick. Mirko never saw it coming, and he crashed to the mat like he’d been shot with his leg folded awkwardly beneath him. Gonzaga went on to face Randy Couture, and the former Croatian anti-terrorism cop was relegated to being just another heavyweight.

Since the loss to Gonzaga it has been almost impossible to keep up with the various twists and turns in Cro Cops career. After another UFC loss, this by unanimous decision to Cheick Kongo where Cro Cop looked listless and gun shy, his management announced that he had suffered a broken rib in the first round and was having trouble breathing. Furthermore, Cro Cop suffered from a deviated septum that made breathing difficult. After some deliberation, he had surgery to correct this condition and announced that he was ready to re-commit himself to his career as a fighter.

Its been an eventful year for Hong Man Choi as well. 2008 began with a loss to Fedor Emelianeko on the Yarrenoka New Years Eve event, in which the Russian fighting god briefly struggled with Chois 72 330 pound frame before submitting him. In April, he joined the Korean army for his compulsory military service only to be relived from his duties after medical tests discovered a brain tumor. The tumor was removed in June, and Choi was back in the ring in late September. He lost to then K-1 heavyweight champ Badr Hari in his comeback fight, and lost again to Ray Sefo in a reserve match at the recently completed World Cup GP. The losses prompted K-1 president Sadaharu Tanikawa to curiously announce that Choi had been laid off from the kickboxing promotion due to perceived erosion in his skills.

Tanikawa’s comments notwithstanding Choi is really the same as hes always been. Hes a physical mismatch for any opponent and while his striking style is awkward at best, it has proven to be reasonably effective. Not sure why Tanikawa is just now realizing that Choi isnt Ernesto Hoost, but hes a surprisingly skilled fighter who uses his unique physical attributes to their best advantage.

This fight isn’t about competition as much as it is about commerce. Cro Cop remains one of the most popular foreign fighters in Japan, and with the proven success of freak show matchups this may have been the most attractive opponent for him from the promotions standpoint. Its a fight that Cro Cop should win, and in Japan at least a victory over Choi would have at least some significance. At the same time, Choi’s size combined with Cro Cops recent reticence to throw punches and kicks makes it a potentially dangerous matchup for the Croatian striking machine.

The Healing Attributes Of Mixed Media Art Lessons In Los Angeles

August 28th, 2010

Mixed Media Art Lessons In Los Angeles have healing attributes. A lot of people question the objective of art. They recognize an aesthetic approach but disregard any possible positive benefits of a far more sensible nature. Contrary to popular belief, art isn’t strictly visual. It isn’t a product with no possible effects outside the obvious - an artistic product. Art isn’t of less use than science in preparing people for the real world. Actually, the opposite is true. Art is very important in helping the brain reach its total potential.

How does art accomplish this? It introduces the brain to different cognitive skills that help us unravel complex problems. Art triggers the creative part of our brain - the part that works without words and could only express itself non-verbally. Art, in thought and through the creative processes, triggers the imaginative as well as creative side, the spatial and instinctive side of our mind. Art jumps over the process of linear and logical thinking. It trains the brain to shift into thinking in a different way, of broaching old problems in new ways.

Why might the arts give such benefits? Artistic processes restore a sense of identity and agency. It reminds people they’re a whole lot more than just a disease process or even a diagnosis. A number of scientists believe that such feelings of control plus mastery induce an increase in the production of disease-fighting cells. A 2004 research discovered that HIV-positive patients who engaged in painting exercises specifically designed to help them process traumatic events, had greater levels of a specific group of white blood cells known as CD4 lymphocytes.

Other research reveals various mechanisms by which art could improve health. Individuals who were pleased with their art work had lower amounts of cortisol, a hormone that is a marker for stress. In other words, artistic engagement does not just make people feel better in the moment-it may safeguard their future health by boosting their immune systems. The artwork distracts the sufferers, forcing them to consider something different other than the pain they might be experiencing within therapy. And with all the illnesses going around throughout the world today, we have to surround ourselves with beauty.

Mixed Media Art Lessons In Los Angeles could truly cure. For folks coping with psychosis and those people who have not experienced psychosis, there can be a huge gap in comprehending. In a broad sense, art could be an effective tool where those who are unfamiliar with the landscape of psychosis could be given a look into a complex and frequently beguiling medical problem. On a more personal level, for people taking care of somebody who is living with psychosis art could be a good way to gain insight into the person’s subjective experience. In this medical condition, in which the reality experienced by someone in the middle of psychosis could be very different from the truth felt by others, art can be used as a means to bridge the distance between these encounters.

Clara Berta is a globally renowned mixed new media artist that focuses on painting lessons los angeles, classes and anything else. Interior designers simply really like this today’s art and she’s likewise most desirable for her popular collage painting in Los Angeles. Del Mar: Southern California’s Horse Racing Capital

August 19th, 2010

Southern California’s Del Mar Racetrack has been is often overshadowed by East Coast venues like Churchill Downs and Belmont Park. The reality is that the 72 year old track has a history to rival their better known counterparts that includes the greatest horses and jockeys in the sport, as well as a healthy dose of show biz glitz. Operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and located 20 miles North of San Diego, its perhaps most famous for its iconic slogan: “Where The Surf Meets the Turf.”

The Del Mar Race Track was founded in the late’30’s by a group of business and show biz elite, including Bing Crosby, Oliver Hardy and Jimmy Durante. During much of the pre WW II era, horse racing ran a close second to baseball in mainstream popularity, so these racing enthusiasts were clearly at the right place at the right time in terms of market forces.

The show biz legends that have been Del Mar regulars could fill a book. Bing Crosby was one of catalysts behind the building of the facility, and he personally greeted guests on opening day. During the late 30’s/early 40’s it hosted stars such as W.C. Fields, Edgar Bergen, Red Skelton, Ava Gardner and Paulette Goddard.

Del Mar was the site of the’38 match race between Seabiscuit and Ligaroti. Seabiscut won the $25,000 winner take all challenge by a nose, and this race set Del Mar betting and attendance records and remains one of the most famous races in history. The racing at Del Mar continued to flourish until the start of WWII, when the track went ‘dark’ for racing.

After the war, Del Mar reopened with a bang. The track reopened the day after Japan formally surrendered to Allied forces, and on that day Del Mar attracted over 20,000 fans through its gates who wagered what at the time was a record $958,476. The postwar prosperity was also a boon to Del Mar, which also benefitted from the Santa Fe Railroads daily Racetrack Special that brought bettors down from Los Angeles to enjoy a day at the track. During the latter part of the decade a new crop of Hollywood glitterati would flock to Del Mar, including Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Mickey Rooney John Holmes, Frank Sinatra and Jimmy Durante. Durante would become such a regular that the turf course at Del Mar would later be renamed in his honor.

The annual race meet at Del Mar remains a highlight of the summer to this day. Del Mar remains one of the top tracks in the country, and have recently upgraded their facility with a state of the art grandstand and was one of the first tracks to install a new synthetic racing surface.

Find Inexpensive Vacation Within Your Reach Here

August 17th, 2010

Most people would be thrilled to have the chance to take an unplanned vacation - to just take off on a spur-of-the-moment getaway. Before now, that was almost unthinkable due to the sky-high prices of last-minute plane tickets. But fortunately, it’s now possible to book a vacation on short notice and still get a terrific deal. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you’re buying tickets for a low-cost, last-minute vacation:

1. The first place that you should turn, when searching for a last minute vacation bargain, is the internet. Whether your chosen destination is the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe, or another exotic location, you will find discount travel websites online, that provide vacation packages at discount prices. And you can expect to find a variety of bargain vacation packages available for a trip that you plan to take in the very near future. When visiting one of these discount travel websites, you can compare prices and availability of vacation deals to a number of destinations. If you are trying to enjoy a spur of the minute trip that doesn’t break the bank, these websites have a wealth of information that will be quite useful to you. Utilizing such services can save you upwards of 30% over the travel arrangements that you would be able to reserve as an individual.

2. If you will be traveling in the off-season, you can expect to find bargains on last minute vacations as well. Identical vacation packages purchased in the off-season and the peak season, will likely have a price difference of about 10%, making traveling during the off-season quite beneficial. If your chosen destination is Europe, there are a variety of travel packages available to Rome, Paris, Athens, London, Frankfurt, Barcelona, and other European hot spots. You can expect to find the best bargains to Mexico and Hawaii during their off-season, which is the summer, and for European vacation deals, the winter will prove the time for travel discounts.

3. Choosing to visit a location a short time after a hurricane has moved through, will also yield inexpensive travel packages. Destinations that are hit by hurricanes, will be anxious to recoup any losses due to decreased tourism during a hurricane, and therefore, they will extend last minute vacation specials to encourage travel there. Not only will you travel on the cheap, you will be doing your part to assist a struggling economy.

4. Taking a vacation with a group of friends can be a terrific way to have a great time and save money. This way, the cost of the vacation package can be split between the whole group. Use online travel discount sites to help you decide where to go, as these can help you narrow down the options for inexpensive trips.

5. Book flights for times when ticket prices are generally less expensive. In general, the cheapest tickets are available in the middle of the week. Along that same line, it’s cheaper to fly on the off-season. For example, plane tickets will cost less in late March than they will in early April.

Get Expensive Family Vacation In Your Grasp Tomorrow

August 17th, 2010

It is not uncommon for middle class families to eschew annual trips, some because they are too busy, some because they are too tired, and others because they simply do not have the spare money to pay for travels.

Upon further examination, such a decision appears to be a rational one. It seems that it becomes more expensive by the day to travel. Nevertheless, there are discount vacation packages to be found and you can find them by searching in newspaper ads or online. Since family vacations are valuable opportunities for a family to have a good time together and the memories will last for a lifetime, it’s certainly worthwhile to search out destinations that you can afford.

The expense of flying is the first big obstacle encountered when planning a holiday trip. You must try for a good bargain deal in this. You can get discount on airfare in many ways. One way is to take your flight in the middle of the week, on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or a Thursday, when there are fewer people flying. You will need to do some research ahead of time, but there are some great bargains if you look for them. It is always advisable to review discount websites for travelers which often boast the most advantageous offers. You can cross check several sites and then select one which is most suitable to you and your family. You should always investigate airplane ticket prices with the smaller airlines instead of just looking at the prices from the larger companies.

Another worrisome expense for travelers can be the cost of ground transportation upon arrival. No matter how you prefer to get around, be sure to seek out the least expensive option offered.

You can expect discounts, if you go and book cars via online car rental sites. It is important to conduct due diligence on car rental firms, roadside attractions, insurance requirements and anything else related to hiring a vehicle for use on your vacation. If you’d plan your holiday where you would need to stop at different destinations, like traveling in North America or Europe, then you should buy your rail passes early before you start your travel as this will save you some money.

You will also need a place to stay when you reach your destination, another large expense. In order to get a best deal try to stay at one hotel for a longer duration. You can book for motel coupons thorough internet whereas availing cheap bed and breakfast via yellow pages would not be a problem.

Another idea for an affordable trip that offers some adventure is to visit a National Park, where you can get a cabin or tent for less than a hotel room would cost. If you have time for a longer vacation, you can also purchase park passes and save even more money that way.

Iron Chef: Japan’s Culinary Sensation Takes America By Storm

August 10th, 2010

One of the most entertaining spectacles on television can be found every week on the Food Network. The concept of the program sounds like a twisted dream”prominent chefs from all over the world go head to head in competitions more suited for All Japan Pro Wrestling. That’s exactly the premise of Iron Chef, which is hands down the most compelling cooking show on television. Even non-gourmands will enjoy the fast paced competition and the near incomprehensibility of the show.

The story behind the show goes something like this–there’s this rich dude, MC Kaga who summons the finest chefs in Japan to do battle in his kitchen stadium. Needless to say, a TV studio wouldn’t suffice for such a production: the kitchen stadium is in Kaga’s castle. Also in residence are three Iron Chefs, each representing a different type of cuisine (Chinese, French and Japanese).

The chefs just don’t pull out the best dishes from their repertoire–that would be too predictable. There’s a catch to the contest, and thats the fact that every dish must contain the theme ingredient which is kept a mystery until immediately before the contest begins. At that time, Kaga brings forth a heaping helping of whatever the current mystery ingredient is in a production of smoke and pyrotechnics. Sometimes the ingredient is something basic like tofu or apples, but it can also be something obscure like ox tail or some obscure shellfish.

At that point, the chefs have an hour to prepare a seven course meal, served to a discerning panel of B-List celebrities that usually include a couple of ‘TV Presenters’ and a ‘fortune teller’. The judges rate and discuss each course and declare a winner. Its a great honor to beat one of the Iron Chefs, though its no easy feat.

What really brings the show together is the announcin–”though I’m sure it loses something having been dubbed from Japanese. There’s a hysterical play by play announcer, an excitable color commentator, and an even more hyperactive sideline correspondent who will break in the commentary frequently with revelations such as observing that a chef is using fresh ginger in a dish or some similar piece of trivia. Apparently one of the announcers is a legit sumo wrestling announcer in Japan, making the strange juxtaposition between cooking shows and wrestling even more complete.

The dishes that are presented are always amazing and creative. Sometimes they might not be the most appetizing creations, but that’s to be expected when you have to make a desert with something like pickled carp as a theme ingredient. The creative process and the competition is what makes the show a must watch.

The Food Network has recently begun production of a native grown version called ‘Iron Chef America’. It has a similar format, but really loses a lot from the Fuji TV original.

Stonewashed Jeans - Awesome Gospel Band Upcoming Tour

August 9th, 2010

Stonewash Feet Fagault is my favorite gospel band and has been for many years. They have 44 Mir Albums and their last album “Jesus Built My Hyundai” went double Mir in just 36 hours. The band is just great. Vocals, guitar and drums. And they’ve done it the same way for over 2 decades. The dreadlocked lead singer Greta Grables wears stonewashed jeans cut off at the knees, similar to capri pants but way more metal, to reveal black fishnets. She sings like Etta James with an explosive diarrhea problem. Alternating between smooth and gassy! So so classy!

The guitar player Herbert Hendrix rocks a Stonewashed jeans jacket. His licks are legendary. His boogie-woogie style is second to none. Except maybe Conan O’ Brien. Hebert also recently overcame a crippling addiction to industrial solvents brought on by the tragic murder suicide of his puggle Whoopie Barkberg who savagely tore apart his Himalayan cat Captain Fluffinstein and then ran into traffic on the 401. The ballad “Himalayan Meeooouch” was indeed inspired by this incident.

The drummer is best known for his line of K-Mart Brand glassware. Lupe Divales. If you need a man to keep time or run a 3rd world sweatshop to make glassware for K-Mart, Lupe’s the man. Its like he’s got a metronome instead of a brain. You can always tell when Lupe’s gonna rock cuz he’ll bring his unique Stonewashed jeans colored drum set into town.

Stonewash Feet Fagault isn’t all Stonewashed jeans and hype though. They have sold out arenas all over Eastern Europe, full of metal head, God fearing zealots- the only kind of people I run with. But this summer they are coming to America for the very first time. Dates have been booked in Memphis, Little Rock, Jackson, Montgomery, Amarillo, East Dillon and Newark. Greta, Herbert and Lupe got their work visas and have rented a 2009 Honda Odyssey. But they are still looking for affordable housing or places to crash in each locale. That’s where you come in!

If you live in one of the above-listed cities and you have a washing machine that can accommodate Stonewashed jeans and other band accoutrements, then contact Stonewash Feet Fagault at +34 090 8432 8989. They won’t drink all the beer in you fridge. They’re a Gospel band. You might consider not having any industrial solvents around though.

In exchange for lodging and care of their Stonewashed jeans SFF promises you a copy their three song EP “The Lord Loves Us More Than Them.” This EP was previously only available in Latvia, but thanks to the band’s recent and wondrous discovery of bit torrents, SSF will burn you a copy if you can hook them up with a place to stay. They’ll even autograph it.

SFF loves Stonewashed jeans and so should you!
