Art is very important in helping the brain reach its total potential.

How does art accomplish this? It introduces the brain to different cognitive skills that help us unravel complex problems. Art triggers the creative part of our brain - the part that works without words and could only express itself non-verbally. Art, in thought and through the creative processes, triggers the imaginative as well as creative side, the spatial and instinctive side of our mind. Art jumps over the process of linear and logical thinking. It trains the brain to shift into thinking in a different way, of broaching old problems in new ways.

Why might the arts give such benefits? Artistic processes restore a sense of identity and agency. It reminds people they’re a whole lot more than just a disease process or even a diagnosis. A number of scientists believe that such feelings of control plus mastery induce an increase in the production of disease-fighting cells. In other words, artistic engagement does not just make people feel better in the moment-it may safeguard their future health by boosting their immune systems. Some of the first historical texts that clarify the rules of solitaire are also written in Spanish.

Many written works about solitaire appeared in the 19th and 20th centuries, and there were hundreds of them. There were small tweaks in the rules depending on where the literature was written, but the basic concept remained the same.

Today, the game has become one of the most well known card games in the whole world. Breaking Into The Business With Horror Movies

August 22nd, 2010

It is odd, is it not, how popular horror movies have always been? This means odd considering the fact that fear is not usually a very pleasant state of mind to be in outside of the theater. It is a survival mechanism, and a primal one at that, yet people like to pull the trigger on it in groups and even when they are home alone.

Maybe it is the adrenaline rush when the scary monster jumps onto the screen. Maybe it is the fact that folks can allow themselves to get frightened knowing all along that it is all make believe. Certainly it is the opportunity for a date to get closer together and maybe squeeze hands. Yeah, scary movies are fun indeed.

If someone is a real big fan of the genre, like so many folks are, they will probably get to the point when they wonder why they could not do it themselves. Why not get into the film business on their own? It is totally possible, and guess what? Scary B-films are a good way to get a foot in the door in this business. Many very successful careers have been started in his very way.

The folks who produce this fare know that they are gold mines waiting to happen. And the directors get involve for the very same reason. So why not get involved as a business venture? Here is a little secret: these pictures are often so low budget that they will use anyone who can make it to the set to work. No, the pay will be not be good, but the experience will, and an artist can build their reputation.

Think about the makeup guys. Some of them are more famous than the directors, because they are the ones making the splatter so real, and the monsters so scary looking. But it is a good bet they started out stealing makeup from their mom and dressing up the family dog. Artists have to start somewhere, so here is a good spot to try to be an assistant or something.

And what about writing a script? It seems that a writer could distill the essence of every great scary film into a simple formula. It could probably be described in about four sentences. And that right there is the seed for a new film script. Just add in some new characters and locations and it may actually be on to something big. Again, all famous film folk started in the same basic way.

And as far as the acting goes, if an actor can scream really good, and if they are attractive enough, it should not be too hard to find a small role, in which the character gets killed off pretty early on in the film, and start building a resume reel thereby. Again, many of these types of films are very low budget, so the return in any work put into to them could be substantial.

So instead of paying the hard earned cash out of pocket to get scared by someone else, why not think about using some of that cash to do the scaring professionally? Many good, respectable careers have been started on the low budget B-film horror circuit. It is safe to say that others could, too, and could actually make a living with horror movies.

Does Fantasy Sports Have More Negatives Than Advantages?

August 20th, 2010

If you’ve never tried playing in fantasy sports leagues, it can be a lot of fun. I play in several virtual leagues; football, basketball and baseball. There are a lot of other basic games revolving around sport that I’ve dabbled in too.

At the end of the day, this is good, harmless fun. You act as a team manager and buy and sell players and build your team, giving you areal sense of satisfaction when your team wins.

As with all things that you really enjoy doing; fantasy leagues get very addictive. There are loads of stats and positions to check and I find myself doing this constantly, and also checking out my competitor’s results.

I’ve even watched matches that I couldn’t care less about just to see how it will affect my teams’ placings. I will also follow games for the same reason. There are some that actually wonder if it is harmless considering how addicted some players get.

I mentioned a lot of positives about playing these leagues earlier, and here’s another big one; it incites our competitive spirit, which is what playing sports is all about. We follow our teams in reality, so what is wrong with following these ones?

I will admit to certain periods of obsession over how my players are performing and whether or not they have the best interests of the team at heart. This has often taken precedence over the actual results.

Another predicament that I have found myself in is being torn between watching my virtual teams or my real teams. This is a dilemma that has risen its head several times and the decision never gets any easier. The thing is it should be simple as I’ve followed these teams since childhood.

Do I have a problem? Well if I do there are millions of us. This is a topic for hot debate by many sports enthusiasts.

Getting To Know The Fun Game Of Bingo

July 30th, 2010

Bingo was originally called “Beano” and was first played in Italy, mainly at country fairs. A caller was responsible for drawing discs from a cigar box with players using beans to mark their cards as the numbers were called out. If they succeeded in marking all the numbers when they were called out to make the row or column given, they were made to shout out the word “Beano”, and the first person to shout was considered the winner.

Later the game was developed into the Bingo game we know of today by Edwin Lowe and Carl Leffler; and became so popular that it was played by over 6000 different bingo cards by 1930.

This game is now played all over including in the community halls and some church functions and now it has become more modern. Using a caller, the players will be around a table in a hall and the cards dished out to them. They would mark them with ink as the numbers are called out by the caller. It becomes a fierce competition since each player tries to be the one to finish first and shout “Bingo!”

Now Bingo has become the Internet game that is played online all over the world. It means a player can do this in the comfort of his own home and compete with other players all over the globe.

Those who play Bingo on the internet must register at one of the bingo sites either for free or for a fee. Then the new member is supposed to pay a deposit into the individual account.

Any deposits made to the individual accounts guarantee the player some extra credit, which are usually given to him as bonuses. The player now is ready to start the Bingo game.

Playing on the internet is more relaxed as the computer will call the numbers and also mark the cards for the player. You may be wondering how the shout of “Bingo!” is conducted on the internet. Well, the computer will help the player to shout his “Bingo!” as well; because the games have become totally automated.

The free sites may not make the member to deposit any money into their accounts but will need them to mark their own card and wait to shout “Bingo” with the computer mouse. There are halls that are categorized and players are put in separate halls with various numbers.

The writer also often gives advice on things including skylight blinds and beverage refrigerator.
