Howie, AJ and Nick - A Sure Fire Hit For The Backstreet Boys
August 20th, 2009
In 1993, the Backstreet Boys were considered to be just another boy bad that Lou Pearlman put together. The group consisted of five talented singers, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell. Although Kevin Richardson has decided to opt out of this album, to start up a family, his band members are still foreseeing a comeback somewhere in this singers future.
The Backstreet Boys (or should we say men) have a new album called This Is Us, which is set for European release on October 5th on RCA Records and for release in the US on October 6th on Jive Records. Said to be perhaps their best album ever this their seventh studio album and their second since losing band member Kevin Richardson, who is on a hiatus to begin a family shows great promise.
Trying to regain some of their lost momentum since their incredible Millennium album hit the charts in 1999 with hits like I Want It That Way and All I Have To Give, they are once again collaborating with producer Max Martin who was responsible for the I Want it That Way hit track.
They are not only collaborating with Max Martin, but have also sought help from producer and songwriter Red One who has been able to help Lady Gaga pull off some of her hit singles like Poker Face and Just Dance. Red One has helped the Backstreet Boys on This Is Us by producing the albums lead single entitled Straight through My Heart.
This band has experienced its share of ups and downs, and each of the band members has attempted a solo career, which also seems to have just been a fleeting thing. Overall this band keeps trying to reinvent and so far hasn’t really found their niche, but with thirteen top 40 hits and having sold over 100 million albums, they are definitely do for a hit album and word out there is that This Is Us is just the album to push them back up to the top of the charts once again. The best boy band of all time Backstreet Boys are back and better than ever.

Pinball Struggles To Survive In A Digital World
August 19th, 2009
Having survived a couple of World Wars, countless recessions, the indignation of lifestyle police, and most recently the video game phenomenon it appeared that pinball was just too tough to kill. Thats why it was a surprise when WMS Industries, the dominant player in the industry for the past decade and the maker of Williams and Bally machines, announced that it was getting out of the business several years ago. Shed no tears for WMS, who is making money hand over fist with their video poker and slot machine division. In fact, following the announcement that they were getting out of the pinball business the companys stock experienced a small but substantial gain.
At one point, pinball dominated the arcade. During the mid to late 1970s and on the heels of the movie version of the Who pinball themed rock opera Tommy arcades nationwide featured row upon row of gleaming new machines from one of over a half dozen US manufacturers (with many others made worldwide). The first salvo of the video game industry was fairly innocuous”Pong didnt do much to dent pinballs popularity since it didnt exactly offer the same immersive challenge. Besides, it took two to tango when it came to Pong, so that game and its progeny had more of an impact at the home level (and paved the way for what would become a huge industry). The first challenge to the popularity of the pinball machine in the arcade began with Midways Space Invaders and Ataris Asteroids. These games could be played alone, and offered the same sort of escapism that pinball provided. For the arcade owner, these games took up less space, required less maintenance, and offered a higher customer turnover.
Pinball put up a good fight, and popular games continued to appear through the mid 1980’s. Several pinball games were actually spinoffs of popular video games–”Spy Hunter and Space Invaders and a number of not so good ones based on the Pac Man video games. For awhile, pinball and video games enjoyed an uneasy co-existence, much like Mac and Windows in the computer world.
It was the late 1980s”when video games became more technologically advanced and began to offer superior play experiences”that pinball lost its way. Depending on the manufacturer, they did it in different ways. Gottlieb and others made simple, traditional games that just couldnt compete with their video counterparts. Bally and other manufacturers went the opposite route”by cramming so much onto a playfield that the game hardly resembled traditional pinball. Some of Ballys late 1980s games”with so much playfield gimmickry going on”were nearly unplayable. By this point”and in large part due to the paucity of compelling pinball machines turned out during this era”video had taken over the arcade. Some larger arcades continued to offer a few pinball machines to placate hardcores, while some eliminated pinball altogether.
As the eighties gave way to the 1990s, however, a funny thing happened. Pinball began to experience a bit of a comeback driven by well designed, enjoyable games that finally got the balance between traditional gameplay and modern technology right. Williams and Bally (whom WMS later acquired), along with Data East, were making the majority of new games and some would become classics. Pin-Bot, Earthshaker The Adams Family and Diner are among my favorites of this era. Williams was at the forefront of the return to excellent design and gameplay, and its hard to think of a Williams game from this period that wasnt a fun game to play, if not a borderline classic. Articles started to appear in the traditional media about the durability and timelessness of pinball, about how the average pinball machine received much more repeat business than the average video game and about the devotion of the pinball player.
The final nail in the coffin, however, were a number of societal changes beyond the pinball manufacturers’ control. For one, video games and video arcades became less profitable as companies like Sony and Nintendo were able to transform a lot of the high end gameplay to the home platform. Fewer people were going to malls, and they werent staying as long when they did. Mega-malls like the Mall of America and the Forum Shops at Caesar’s were the exception to this, but there just werent enough to these to sustain demand.
Pinball still soldiers on, with something of a hipster revival of the games in cities like Seattle and Portland where lovingly restored machines sit alongside new offerings by Stern Pinball, the only remaining manufacturer in the world. At this point, it appears that the only hope for pinball players is that some effort will be made to preserve the machines that already exist.

Parents–Keep An Eye On Those Airsoft Guns
August 18th, 2009
In most cases, when a person thinks of airsoft guns, children are the first consumer that comes to mind. These types of guns can be fun, and at the same time teach kids how to use a real gun in a safe way. These products should be treated as a real weapon, then there is a minimum safety concern while a child is using the gun.
The first step is to go to a store which provides guns for sale, and choose a model that fits the size of the child. For example, the child will have the choice of a rifle/shotgun or a pistol model. Pistols are usually recommended for older children. The prices are based on the features included. Commonly, more features cause the greater price.
Some guns that are available have a number of different ammunition which can be used by the same gun. One example of the safest ammunition for the younger kids is the soft ammunition. This ammunition comes in many colors and is made of a soft rubber substance. Usually the guns that use this type of ammunition are a good choice for younger age groups.
When a pistol version of this gun is purchased, the proper handling and aiming needs to be explained in detail to a child. Then the child needs a chance to prove they have been paying attention during instruction. Stand with the child and watch them to make sure they are using the proper handling techniques of the pistol.
Holsters should be purchased, or sometimes a holster comes included with a pistol version of the airsoft guns. Telling a child the importance of storage of a gun, and enforcing these procedures are vital to the preservation and proper firing of the gun, at all times. The rifle versions of the gun can be stored along with real guns in a locked gun safe. This way the child will have to ask the parent to get the gun out, because the key should be kept out of the reach of any child in the home.
Teach the child not to ever aim the gun at a person, no matter if the gun is loaded or not. Pointing a airsoft gun at another human being is not only illegal no matter what type of gun it is, but pointing a gun at another individual is not showing the gun respect. Usually this encounter happens as a result of fighting or bickering, or simply horse playing. No matter what the circumstances a gun should not be pointed at another individual ever.
In summary, airsoft guns can be used as a form of protection by adults that are not allowed to have a real firearm due to whatever reasons. These types of guns need to be treated as real guns, and the best judgments and procedures need to be used at all times. Especially when there are young eyes watching and learning from the adults’ example.
These rules do limit the freedom of people, and we all need to let freedom ring once in a while. The original theory of politics were built to protect citizens. However, when citizens learn to protect themselves, the rules are less harsh.

Crossing Over the Bridge
August 18th, 2009
It’s no surprise that we live in a world of tag lines. They can teach you a great deal about life. Not only are they the pithy currency of would-be screenwriters and filmmakers alike, but they are semi-clever marketing slogans. That being said, I must say the tag line for BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA is actually dead on. Watching the film (or better yet, reading the book) will indeed help you discover a place that will never leave you, and a friendship that will change you forever. True enough — and well said.
The film is a shining example of how a novel should and could be adapted for the screen, even when you take the minor plot adjustments into consideration. The film was written by David Paterson, who is the son of the novel’s author, Katherine Paterson. As previously mentioned, it was faithfully adapted and lovingly brought to life. This is in no small way an indication of both Csupo and Paterson’s dedication to the tenements of the novel.
The story revolves around two 12-year-old friends who create a world they can escape to — a world of their own making. This virtual kingdom was stunningly depicted by the conceptual artist Dima Malanitchev and brought tot life by the effects wizards at Weta Digital. The director, Csupo, insisted the look and feel of the fantastic elements be realistic and keeping in line with a greater sense of subtlety.
The film manages to balance itself between the real-life aspect of everyday life and the imaginative world of the main characters, Jesse Aarons, played by Josh Hutcherson, and Leslie Burke, played by AnnaSophia Robb. These relative newcomers provide a convincing and moving portrait of young friendship and possibly the budding of young love. Their performances are not to be missed.
A critical darling, BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA also enjoyed a decent box office run. Completed for $20 million, the film garnered more than $120 million worldwide, designating it as something of a rarity: a hit. The film virtually swept the Young Artist Awards, sponsored by the prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It is a film that can be enjoyed by both young and old audiences. Indeed, as another of its tag lines suggests: close your eyes, but keep your mind wide open.

Downloading MP3s Online
August 17th, 2009
There are many websites online that you can legally download music from. Downloading music online used to be illegal on every site however there are many sites that will allow you to do it legally. Choosing the site that is legal and priced well is difficult as there are many sites that price their music differently. You should search around for the best cost before you pick a site to stick with.
You?ll want to start by ensuring that your chosen site is actually legal. This can be difficult as website may post all different types of things on their page to make you believe it?s legal when in fact it?s not. It?s obvious that the sites that you don?t have to pay for aren?t legal however there are plenty of sites that will charge you money to download from them even if they?re not legal. Most of these websites will boast that you can have unlimited downloads for a set monthly price. If you run into a site like this you should be cautious as you can download from them and still be fined by the record companies. Some websites also allow users to transfer music to each other. The site isn?t actually uploading the music it?s just acting as a portal for users to share it. This type of sharing is known as P2P and is illegal as well.
If you want to escape the legality problem facing most sites then you will want to stick with sites that are well known. If you download from a reputable site you won?t have to worry about downloading music illegally and you won?t have to worry about the problems that are associated with downloading music illegally such as viruses. It?s very easy to catch a virus by downloading music illegally.
The next factor is finding a site that has the best price. You will want to check several sites to get an idea of how pricing works. Some sites will charge a flat rate per song and per album while other sites will charge more for newer music and less for older music. There are a few sites that you can legally download many songs for one price per month however you will not own the song you will have the song and be using it legally.
You need to compare the sites that you?ve found to get the best prices. Some sites may have one song for a lower price than the other site. You may also want to consider what else the site offers when you?re choosing a site. Some sites also allow you to download album art, games, and TV shows. Also if you?re a parent that is looking for a site for your children to download music from you should ensure they have measures in place to allow you to limit how much and what they download. Many sites have filters that you can set into place so that your children can only download certain content. The reason that you will want to be able to control how much they download is so that you don?t end up with a huge bill or a ton of money missing from your debit card due to too much downloading.
