Could Windows Vistas Pretty Looks Be To Blame For It Running So Slow?

If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to “look pretty”. Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I am going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vistas looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.
If you are using the Home Premium, Enterprise, Business or Ultimate more likely than not you have the Aero effect turned on. This effect is designed to make your computers windows have a glass like effect that looks cool. It also allows you to have Windows Flip 3D which is just a fancy version of the Alt + Tab combination which allows you to cycle through your currently opened programs. If your not sure what the Flip 3D is, just open a few programs, hold down the Windows Button and press the Tab key a few times - that’s Windows Flip 3D. Now hold down the Alt key and press the Tab key a few times - that’s the old way of cycling through your programs. Here’s how to get rid of the Aero effect:
Click Start, click on Control Panel and on the left hand side make sure that the Control Panel Home is selected. Click on Appearance and Personalize, click on Personalize, click on Windows Color and Appearance and at the bottom select “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. Now in this new window under the Color Scheme drop down box select Windows Vista Basic. Click Apply and then OK. This should turn off the Aero effect.
The second thing that you probably don’t need that Vista has to offer is the sidebar. Now, unless you actually use the gadgets on the sidebar regularly (the clock doesn’t count, there’s one in the bottom right hand corner of your screen that is perfectly good) then I suggest that you get rid of it. It really serves no function to the average user except to make your computers desktop look cool. Here’s how to do it:Right click on the windows sidebar icon in the System Tray and select properties (the system tray is that little group of icons in the bottom right hand corner next to the clock). In the Windows Sidebar Properties dialog box uncheck the box the “Start Sidebar when Windows Starts” and select Apply and then OK. Now just right click on the Windows Sidebar Icon in the system tray again and select Exit.
By doing both of these things you have now freed up your computer of some resources which will allow you to get more work done faster.

How Could Malware Be Slowing Down Your Computer?

Malware is any type of software that enters your computer without you knowing and it does a lot of wrong thing. This is why the “mal” in malware stands for malicious (hence why its bad). Spyware on the other hand is used to collect information on you like your passwords, usernames, credit card accounts etc… For the purposes of this article were going to stick to talking about malware.

This is a program that is used to protect your computer by trying to stop programs from getting their way into your computer. All you have to do is to just download and install the program and it will provide you with full protection. Just make sure to click on the Protection Status button and select Enable All Protection (its at the bottom). There is however, one downside to using the free version of this software - you have to manually go in and update it. Just click on the Updates button and select Check for Updates.

A lot of people that are using their computer for work or even just for leisure are actually wasting time. The first shortcut is used for switching between windows that you have open. Instead of pointing and clicking on them in the task bar at the bottom of your screen, just hold down the Alt button and press the Tab one a few times to cycle through your open programs. To get to your task manager use Ctrl + Shift + Esc - its much faster than the traditional way, especially in Vista. To close a program use Ctrl + F4 and to save a program like a Word document press Ctrl + S. Also if you want to get to the desktop when you have a few windows open, press the windows button + M.

Computer Running Slow? Here Is How To Speed It Up (Windows XP & Vista)

I take it that you are interested in making your slow computer faster. I’ll let you in on a little secret: tune your virtual memory. Your computer has something called a hard drive which it uses to store files on and something called your RAM (Random Access Memory) that it uses to work with files and programs temporarily. When your computer turns off, the information that was on the hard drive will still be there when you turn it back on, but the information on your RAM will be gone. That’s why it’s a temporary working place.
It then has a choice: either tell you that you cannot open any more programs or find a new place to use as its temporary work place. This new place is called virtual memory and is located on your hard drive. The name for the space on your hard drive that the virtual memory occupies is called a Paging File. If you want your slow computer to run a bit quicker all you have to do is to tune your computer Paging File. Here’s how to do it:
If you using Windows XP, click Start, right click My Computer and select Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and then under the section that says Performance, click on Settings. In this window, click on the Advanced tab and under Virtual Memory, click Change. Look under where it says “Drive [Volume Label]” and make sure that C: is selected (it should be highlighted blue). Now look under Page file size for selected drive and select Custom Size.
Under the area that says “Total page file size for all drives section”, remember the amount that says Recommended as that will be important. What ever number is recommended just type it into both boxes that say “Initial Size” and “Maximum Size”. Now click Set and then Ok. To finsih, just click Apply on the next window and then OK.
If you are a Windows Vista user, start off by clicking Start. Now click on the Control Panel icon and on the left hand side make sure Classic View is selected. Double click on the System icon and on the left side of the window, click on the Advanced System Settings. Select the Advanced tab in that window and then under the small section that is labeled Performance just click on Settings. A new window should appear so just click on the Advanced tab and under the irtual Memory section, click on Change. Now uncheck the “Automatically manage paging file size for all drivers”. Pay attention to the area that says “Drive [Volume Label]” and make sure that C: is selected so that it is highlighted. Look under Page “file size for selected drive” and click on Custom Size. Under the area that says “Total page file size for all drives section” look at the amount that says Recommended. The number that it says should be recommended just type that into both boxes where it says Initial Size and Maximum Size. Now click on Set, then Ok. For the next window just select Apply and Ok also.

Isn’t it funny how one day your computer can be running smoothly and then in a few months it can slow down to the point where you just want to throw it out the window?
